Our Story

It started with a shoelace.

UUB Gear is now Ukoala. You may also know us as Urban Utility Bags or The Original Ukoala Bag. This is our official store, home to the original U-shaped strap system and eight ways to wear.

Mayan Ma, a Chinese immigrant civil engineer, tied her purse to her leg with a shoelace on a cross-country flight. She watched koalas cling effortlessly to trees and designed a base shape that curves along the body, making the bag's weight disappear. Eight configurations, one bag, zero compromises.

Handcrafted from 1060D nylon and waxed canvas. Worn by motorcyclists, hikers, convention-goers, and parents who refuse to choose between function and style.
